Safety trains
It goes without saying that the carriages and engines of the high speed trains are as safe as possible. Various measures inside the trains reduce the chance of fire and limit the consequences of a fire.
Some measures to make the trains safe:
- The trains have been fitted with fire-resistant materials, such as fireproof trash containers.
- All carriages have fire-extinguishers.
- Passengers can report emergencies to train staff via the emergency button with a speech communication facility.
- The carriages are interconnected through fireproof and smoke-resistant locks with automatic sliding doors. In the event of a fire inside a carriage, passengers can go to the next fireproof carriage, and the carriage with the fire can be sealed off.
- The carriages are constructed in such a way that a 15-minute period is guaranteed before fire and smoke can break through from one carriage to the next. In the meantime, the pilot is able to bring the train to a standstill at a safe location, where the passengers can get to safety.
